Why Choose Stone?

Marble, granite and quartz are more widely used in modern and traditional buildings these days as they are durable, practical and timeless. Our vast range of stone bathroom floors at Gra Knight gives scope for both the architect and the client to enhance the beauty and value of any building.

What Is Granite?

Granite is a coarse grained igneous rock that consists of quartz and alkali feldspar. Granites are igneous rocks with an origin deep within the earth where rocks melt because temperatures are so high. They are formed when the molten material cools down, and the perfection and size of crystals show the extreme slowness at which the mineral is cooled.

Polished granite:
A polished surface is smooth, shiny and reflective. The stone appears richer and the full colour seems deeper with the crystal structure being visible.

Honed granite:
A honed surface is a smooth surface without reflection. From matte appearance to low sheen, the finish is flatter than full gloss polish.

What Is Marble?

Marbles are metamorphosed limestones which have undergone intense pressure and heat; they consist of calcite, although other minerals can be present.

The word marble is often used to classify many types of material. In its broadest sense, it means polished stone. Serpentine, onyx and quartzite often fall under the collective heading of marble.

What Is Limestone?

Limestones are sedimentary rocks that are rich in carbonates and composed chiefly of calcite. They are formed by organic or inorganic processes mainly deposited from marine remains, and constitute between 15% – 25% of sedimentary rocks exposed above sea level.
